Danny Glover, one of Hollywood’s most versatile and respected actor
s, has gained
international star status for his portrayal of police detective Roger Murtaugh opposite
Mel Gibson in the mega-hit Lethal Weapon film series. Mr. Glover made his directorial
debut with the Chanticleer Films production of Override. It aired on Showtime in
October 1994. A native of San Francisco, Mr. Glover attended San Francisco State
College and trained at the Black Actor’s Workshop of the American Conservatory Theatre.
He appeared in numerous stage productions, including The Island and Macbeth at the
Los Angeles Actors’ Theatre and Sizwe Banzi is Dead at the Eureka Theatre. However,
it was Mr. Glover’s performance in the New York production of Athol Fugard’s Master
Harold and The Boys, that first brought the actor national recognition. Mr. Glover
received widespread critical acclaim in the Academy Awarding winning Places in the
Heart with Sally Field. Mr. Glover brought to like the menacing character of Mister
in Steven Spielberg’s production of the Alice Walker novel The Color Purple. For
his work in Lethal Weapon, Mr. Glover was presented with the NAACP Image Award. He
received his second image Award as well as an ACE Award for his performance in HBO’s
presentation of Mandela. He went on to star in the PBS mini-series Lonesome Dove,
for which he earned an Emmy nomination as Best Supporting Actor. Mr. Glover starred
in Charles Burnett’s award-winning and critically acclaimed To Sleep With Anger,
and made his debut as an Executive Producer which landed him the Independent Feature
Project/West’s Best Actor Award as well as another NAACP Image Award nomination.
He was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame and in April, received the
prestigious Phoenix Award from the Black American Cinema Society. Mr. Glover played
villain Easy Money in Miramax’s A Rage in Harlem and starred with Kevin Kline, Mary
McDonnell and Alfre Woodard in Lawrence Kasdan’s contemporary drama Grand Canyon.
Mr. Glover also starred as a police officer in the powerful drama Bopha! He was Executive
Producer of two HBO projects, America’s Dream and Deadly Voyage. Mr. Glover portrays
Sgt. Washington Wyatt in Buffalo Soldiers, which he is also Executive Producer. Currently,
Mr. Glover and Oprah Winfrey re-team to do Tony Morrison’s Beloved. Plus, Mr. Glover
has recently signed to do Lethal Weapon 4.
