After School Arts Enrichment
Program The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival Education Program for youth is designed to keep arts programming in the Los Angeles Unified School District. The Los Angeles Women’s
Theatre Festival (LAWTF) teaching staff is comprised of professional,
skilled, and experienced theatre artists who are dedicated to reaching
children of all ages in order to teach them self-expression. Over 3000
students in over 50 schools in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley have
already been served. Through its 6 week ongoing “Victory Over Violence” Program in the Creative Kids After School Program in the San Fernando Valley which meets once a week students have the opportunity to express feelings and thoughts, which impact their daily lives, through the use of performing, writing, and/or visual arts. The class will emphasize that violence includes not only physical actions, but also thoughts, words and deeds. Students will apply the tools given to them by the instructors and from the use of these tools a unified artistic performance will emerge. LAWTF also partners with Enrichment Works, bringing teaching artists into schools to work with selected classes and teachers to prepare youth for live performances at school assemblies. LAWTF’s teaching artists use the California mandated content standards in areas that include visual and performing arts, language, history and science. For inquiries of existing site programs
or to request teaching artists at other schools please contact: Education Coordinator, Babe Evans
