“The 6 Project” (Theatre)

In the town of Jena, Louisiana, six African American youths accused of the beating of a white student were subjected to discriminatory handling by the judicial system. This nationally-toured theatre piece explores that incident.

Chelsea Gregory is an Atlanta-born, Brooklyn-based artist and educator who works through the media of theater, spoken word poetry, and dance.  Most recently she completed a national tour with We Got Issues!, worked as movement associate with Cornerstone Theater Company’s Summer Institute, and directed Ey Yo Shorty, a performance piece exploring sexual harassment in public schools for Girls for Gender Equity.  Ms. Gregory’s work is published in several anthologies, and she has performed at venues including The Culture Project’s “Women Center Stage,” The Chicago Hip Hop Theater Festival, The Bioneers Conference, The US Social Forum, and Chuck D’s “On the Real Radio.”   As an educator, Ms. Gregory has consulted with organizations such as Make the Road New York, El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice, Code Pink, Voices Unbroken, The Liberty Science Center, American Jewish World Service, Cirque du Monde and the White Privilege Conference.
