This
true story excerpt from Chicago chronicles the many experiences of a
married woman’s cross-country journey.

Mary Scruggs is
the Head of Writing and Education Programs for The Second City
Training Center in Chicago. Her most recent project was her one-woman show "Missing
Man" which premiered at Live Bait Theater’s Fillet of Solo
Festival and was part of the 2008 NYCFringe Festival in New York City.
Mary has also written The Fairy Trials, a series of plays for
the Circuit Court of Cook County which teach the public about their
court system. The plays are based on classic fairy tales which are
adapted as courtroom dramas. Initiated as live theater for young
audiences, the plays have also been adapted to film and video and have
played for audiences of all ages throughout Cook County and beyond for
the last thirteen years. Mary
was the co-librettist and lyricist for "Camp Nimrod for
Girls," which premiered at Live Bait Theater in Chicago.
Mary's other playwriting credits include "What Every Girl
Should Know," a co-adaptation with Susan Messing, produced by The
Annoyance Theater; "Karma," developed at the Lakeside
Writing Studio and performed at the Skybox Theater and Live Bait;
"Off The Grid," performed at Boxer Rebellion Theater,
"Bedtime Stories" at the Skybox Theater, and
"Revelations," winner of the Agnes Nixon Playwriting
Contest. Acting
experience includes performing in "Hellcab" at Famous Door
Theater and playing various battered women seeking justice for Circuit
Court public service videos and training seminars. She is the coauthor, with Michael J. Gellman, of Process: An
Improviser’s Journey and, with Dr. Katherine S. McKnight, The Second
City Guide to Improvisation in the Classroom.
