Bay Area excerpted theatre piece with song, explores the life of
accomplished 19th Century opera singer Matilda Sissieretta
Jones, known as “The Black Patti.”

The Unsung Diva is
written and performed by singer, actress, and playwright Angela Dean-Baham.
Ms. Dean-Baham appeared most recently at the 2008 San Francisco
Theater Arts Festival and the 15th Annual Afro Solo Arts Festival. She
is a Participating Artist in Cultural Odyssey's New Works Development
Program (funded in part by the San Francisco Foundation, The National
Endowment of the Arts and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation)
and will appear at the 2009 National Black Theatre Festival. A
resident of the Bay area, she has been recognized for her
"exuberant portrayal and her "distinctive silvery soprano
voice" (Cheryl North – The Oakland Tribune). Ms. Dean-Baham has
performed with Festival Opera, Pocket Opera, Berkeley Opera, Oakland
Opera Theater, Oakland Lyric Opera, Woodminster Summer Musicals, and
is an ensemble member in The Bracebridge Dinners at the Ahwanee Hotel
in Yosemite National Park. This one-woman show is produced by Idris
Ackamoor, co-Founder and Artistic Director of Cultural Odyssey in San
Francisco, California and is directed by Rhodessa Jones, co-founder of
Cultural Odyssey and founder and director of The Medea Project.
