mZuri recently
sang in Paraguay with “Opera for Peace,” appearing with the Three
Sopranos and conducted by Dr. David Eaton of the NYC Symphony. This
presentation plans trips to Chile, Argentina, the Vatican and Carnegie
Hall during 2008.
With her
appearance at the 2008 LAWTF, mZuri will take a break from her
signature performance in the one-woman musical play on the life of
60’s civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer that has traveled the
country. This show received the 2002 AUDELCO Award for Best Solo
Performance.
This native of
Paterson, NJ received has been enthusiastically received on cabaret
stages around New York including Danny’s Skylight Room, La Cave on
First, Camy Hall and at Lincoln Center for the 125th Birthday
Celebration of W.C. Handy. She
has also sung at Club Memphis Melody in Paris.
Her
film credit includes the poignant portrayal as the slave “Lucy” in
the independent movie Sankofa.
