Dawnn Lewis is a
multitalented and multifaceted individual.
Perhaps best known for her roles on the hit TV shows A
Different World and Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, she is also a Grammy
Award-winning singer, a multiple ASCAP & BMI Award-winning song
writer, a film actor (I’m Gonna Get You Sucka…), stage performer
(How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying), and TV
creator/producer (BLACK JAQ) for ABC.
Her highly anticipated return to network television is in the
works, as this spring she filmed the pilot HELL ON EARTH, starring
along with Kim Coles & Kyla Pratt.
While filming, she was also performing in the star-studded
production of Donald Welch’s newest stage play THE DIVORCE, having
it’s World Premier before sold-out audiences in Los Angeles & is
presently touring the country this fall.
The cast includes Vanessa Bell Calloway, Freda Payne, Tatiana
Ali, Judy Pace & Dorien Wilson.
Dawnn most recently starred in the World Premiere of the Burt
Bacharach/Hal David musical LOVE SWEET LOVE, it is a staged, musical
tribute to the duos countless hits as a songwriting team.
She was also featured in the award winning film DreamGirls
starring Beyonce’, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy & Jennifer Hudson,
as Melba Early, the wife
of Eddie’s character. From
January of 2006 thru march of 2007 she starred in and received rave
reviews as well as the BEST ACTRESS: FRED AWARD (Los Angeles)
and a nomination for the BEST
ACTRESS: SUZI AWARD (Atlanta), for
her “knock your socks off!!!” performance in the World Premiere of
the new Broadway-bound musical “SISTER ACT” as the “outrageous,
Nun-On-The-Run”, Deloris Van Cartier.
Dawnn started her own record label, Morning Jewel Music, and
released her first CD, a sultry blend of Jazzy R&B entitled Worth
Waiting For. Her sensual
vocals are featured on the single It’s A Shame on jazz violinist
Michael Ward’s Continuum
CD. She has also
given voice to animated characters for various TV series including
Futurama, & it’s just released feature film: Futurama:
Bender’s Big Score, King
of the Hill, The
Boondocks, The X-Men and starred in the Disney films Charlotte's Web
II & The Poof Point, which also happens to feature the title song
from Dawnn’s CD Worth Waiting For on it’s soundtrack.
Dawnn also finds time to teach Master Classes, mentor youth
across the country, give motivational lectures and lend her support
to: The United Negro
College Fund; American Cancer Society; Youth Entertainment Studios;
the Inner City Games; Campfire Boys and Girls; The United States
