Evelina Fernandez
is an award-winning actor, playwright and screenwriter. She is also a
founding and board member of the Latino Theater Company, a poet and a
motivational speaker, performing for and speaking to youth and adults
in schools and community centers throughout California and the
Southwest.
In 2007 she was a
finalist for the Humanitas Prize for her writing for the PBS animation
series “Maya and Miguel. In 2003 her stage play, Dementia and won
the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Theater Production in Los
Angeles.
Evelina has
starred in film roles with Edward James Olmos, Paul Rodriguez and
Cheech Marin in A Million to Juan and in Luminarias with Scott Bakula,
Robert Beltran & Cheech Marin. She was nominated for a DESI AWARD and is the recipient of
the prestigious Nosotros GOLDEN EAGLE AWARD for her critically
acclaimed portrayal of “Julie” in American Me and the ALMA AWARD
for Hollywood Confidential.
Evelina has won
several awards and recognitions nationally and internationally,
including the Nosotros Golden Eagle Award for Outstanding writing for
“LUMINARIAS;” International Film Festival in Bolivia (Best
Screenplay – Luminarias), and many more.
She was inducted into the James.
She was a proud member of Honorable Mayor Antonio
Villaraigosa’s Transition Team in 2005 and is a Commissioner on the
City of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission.
