Ivy Bethune

Eternity Award

***********************************

Ivy Bethune began organizing for civil rights, world peace and unionizing at the age of 15, in the depression years of the 1930’s.  College years led to helping building the American Negro Congress with Mary McLeod Bethune.  The fight finally led to positive results – affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, and finally diversity.

After college graduation in 1940, Ivy joined the American Federation of Radio Artists, now known as AFRTA, with the advent of Television.  Her first radio show was “Superman.”  Her first TV appearance was the Brownstone Theater of the Air and a peanut butter commercial.  This was followed by becoming a member of the Actors Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild.

Ivy is also the recipient of AFTRA’s “Angel Award,” and Actors Equity “Life Membership Award.”  She is also a fervent animal activist.  Her acting awards include Miss Tuttle, Father Murphy; General Hospital (recurring), and guest starring roles on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Barney Miller and the Walton’s,” among many others.  Film roles include Back to the Future, Stand by Your Man, and Get Smart.
