Bones-On Being White and Other Lies” (theatre)
A
thought-provoking performance art piece that explores what it means to
be white in a white supremacist society and exploring ways for healing
by way of humor, history and the resiliency of the human spirit.

Ellen Marie
Hinchcliffe was born on November 2, 1968 and named for both her
Grandmothers. She grew up in Dayton, Ohio and lived in Boston, MA and
Olympia, WA before
rooting herself in Minneapolis, MN.
Ellen is a poet,
filmmaker, performance artist, childcare worker and loving Auntie. She
has received grants from The Jerome Foundation and The Metropolitan
Regional Council for the Arts. Her poetry and writing have appeared in
Z Magazine, Clamor and We'Moon. She has performed widely as a poet,
including at The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, MN and LadyFest in
Olympia, WA. Her
Video-poem, Poem in Honor of Langston Hughes premiered on Twin Cities
Public Television in the fall of 2005. She is currently beginning
production on a documentary
about the writer/thinker Paula Gunn Allen and working on touring Dirty
the Bones- On Being White
and Other Lies (History as Medicine)
Ellen's work is
about ancestors, spirit, politics, contradictions, confronting white
supremacy, humor and healing. She owes her life to all the
thinkers/artists/music makers/ writers of the world especially Cornel
West, Paula Gunn Allen, bell hooks, John Trudell and her amazing Mama.
She lives with her partner Juma B. Essie within walking distance from
her beloved Mississippi River and is sustained by the good company of
many and the occasional all night dance party.
