A
rite of passage rhythmic piece that examines growing up in the
conservative Southern culture and the daughter of an alcoholic father.

April
Garton, aka June bug, Grapeape, Tutenhiemer, & Shaka Queen hails
from Houston, Texas, and is a proud 6th generation Texan!
She graduated from the High school for Performing & Visual
Arts/Vocal Major, singing, tapping, and performing her way to a BFA in
Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University—Eat um Bear Kats!!
(Insert kat claw here).
She
then shot straight out of the jazz hand barrel for two years of
graduate study in Acting at UC Irvine, CA. Eat um up….Anteaters…
In
2001 she received the prestigious Artsbridge Health Scholar award
teaching special needs children how to communicate through sensory
imaging and story telling. Some of her favorite and most rewarding
theatre credits include: Emma from Betrayal, Boo Levy/ Last Night of
Ballyhoo, Brooke/ Noises Off! Sheila/
A Chorus Line , Edith/ Pirates of Penzance, & Irene Molloy/ Hello
Dolly! (Granbury Opera House). A few of her film credits include: the
feature Split, (Paramount Premiere), Tristan McDougherty, *Brooks
Institute, best film short nominee, Hollywood film Festival 2005* Get
Rich Quick, and the sketch comedy sit com pilot Quiet on the Set.
She
has been living in LA for the past 2 years performing pieces of her
written work in Wendy Kamenoff’s Story Pie and Tasty Words.
She
has performed “Daddy’s Little June Bug” at the prestigious White
Fire Theatre in Sherman Oaks known for their Solo Series Festival and
Emerging Artists showcase 2007. April
would like to give a special thank you to my solo show teach Wendy
Kamenoff, for nurturing my voice and out of the box approach, Nadia
Angelini for your incredible friendship and creative, inspiring
spirit! MOM, for your courage, as a woman, to speak your truth, (l
love you!!) and Gran, my
beloved Gran. I hope your
Tutenhiemer makes you proud…this is for you.
If
you liked the Bug so much and you wanna come back for round two, April
will be performing “Daddy’s Little June Bug” in April (well go
figure), at the White Fire Theatre in their ongoing solo series
festival 2007.
She
is also very proud of her feature film debut Split
premiering at Paramount Studios, March 1st, 2007.
